DAR members award over $150,000 in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.
Annually, the Mt. Diablo Chapter, which was organized in Danville, CA over 50 years ago, awards Good Citizens Certificates and a scholarship to a qualifying local high school senior with citizenship qualities such as dependability, community service, and leadership. These students are recognized for their outstanding performances by their teachers and peers.
The Chapter also contributes both monies and coupons nationally to DAR run schools for the underprivileged and to several Native American Schools.
Since the early 1900's DAR has help support education in two very special schools in remote mountain areas; The Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Alabama and The Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina. Monetary and nonmonetary contributions also are given to the following approved schools: Berry College, Crossnore School, Inc., Hillside School, Inc., and Hindman Settlement School.
